SO YOU WANT TO BE AN INTERPRETER?

Communicating with people is something we all do everyday assuming that we can both be understood and understand others. However, in America it can be a process that is difficult to do when people use languages other than English. For deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind persons, communicating with people that do not know American Sign Language (ASL) becomes a central issue. In these situations, a sign language interpreter is hired to be sure communication and understanding occurs. Sign language interpreters mediate language barriers between people who are deaf and use ASL and people who can hear and speak English.

EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION

What is early childhood intervention?

Early Intervention services provide families with the information and support they need to maximize their child’s overall development. Early Intervention services from

qualified, experienced professionals can help you understand your child’s hearing loss. You will learn about your child’s strengths and needs and ways to help your child develop. You will discover that you and your family play an important role in your child’s development. You are your child’s teacher. You are the “expert” on your child. The choices you make will be yours and they will be made with confidence because they will be informed decisions.
