What is SVSD?
Southeastern Virginia Society for the Deaf is an organization comprised of Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people working together with a common goal of one day opening a resource center for the Deaf and hard of hearing in Hampton Roads Virginia.
Primary Goals of SVSD

The primary goals of this organization are:

● Promote the education and well-being of the Deaf community at large.
● Offer opportunities for social and cultural enrichment for both Deaf and hearing people.
● Educate the public on providing communication access and equal opportunities for Deaf persons in our community.
● Educate the public as well as the Deaf community as to our LEGAL rights under the American's with Disabilities Act of 1993.
● Fundraising and writing grants to finance Hampton Road's first ever Resource Center for the Deaf.

SVSD's goal is to start a Resource Center for the Deaf in Hampton Roads.   
Some of the programs we would like the Resource center to focus on would be:

• Job training and placement for the Deaf
• Hearing parent / Deaf child educational center
• Interpreter Network
• Deaf child education information
• Teach self advocacy
• Technology center
